Hun Sen Says Shootings, Traffic Accidents Threaten Tourism
Gun violence and fatal traffic accidents are hurting the government’s efforts to boost tourism, Prime Minister Hun Sen said yesterday, urging local authorities to take action-even against the powerful. Mr. Hun Sen also said the government has earmarked sites for two new international airports to cater to an expected flood of visitors in the coming years, which Tourism Minister Thong Khon said should reach 7 million by 2020. … Tourism Minister Mr. Khon yesterday predicted that there would be about 4.5 million tourists in 2015 and 7 million in 2020. According to the Tourism Ministry, almost 3 million visitors came to Cambodia in 2011, a 14.8 percent increase over the previous year.
